Bequest Language

To include LSS in your will, please use this suggested language:

"I bequeath to Lutheran Social Services Foundation of Upstate New York,
a charitable corporation established by The State Of New York,
the sum of [dollars or percentage of estate],
to be used for the general purposes of LSS."

To name LSS as the beneficiary of part (or all) of the residue of an estate:

"I devise and bequeath to Lutheran Social Services Foundation of Upstate New York,
a charitable corporation established by The State Of New York,
all [or specify portion] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate,
whether real, personal or mixed, however and whenever acquired and wherever located,
to be used [specify how bequest is to be used]."

To name LSS as a contingent beneficiary, whereby you can make testamentary gifts
to one or more individuals with the assurance that if any predecease the testator, that bequest will come to LSS:

"If any of the above named beneficiaries should predecease me,
I then devise and bequeath to Lutheran Social Services Foundation of Upstate New York,
a charitable corporation established by The State Of New York,
all the property, real or personal, which said beneficiary
or beneficiaries would have received had they survived me."

Although it is possible to designate a specific purpose for your bequest,
the needs of LSS change over time.
We request that any specific purpose be stated as a preference,
with the final determination left to the discretion
of the LSS Foundation Board of Directors.

Please contact the LSS Foundation if you would like to discuss further.
