Our Mission

To offer care that supports an individual’s journey through life with compassion, dignity, and respect. Our vision for the future is to be the innovative leader and first choice for employment, living, and care.

Caring for others since the 19th century.

Lutheran Jamestown has brought the spirit of human kindness and quality care to Jamestown, NY since 1886 – when our organization began as a home for orphaned children. In the ensuing decades, this focus expanded to senior care. The “Lutheran Home for the Aged” opened in 1930, followed by one expansion after another – independent housing, tech-savvy apartments, the state-of-the-art Edgewood Commons, and Hultquist Place Assisted Living. As our campus grew, our impact widened, enriching the lives of hundreds of regional residents every day.

Today, we remain a cornerstone of healthcare excellence and community goodwill. Our dedication to children in need lives on in the form of G.A. Family Services, which provides foster care, adoption, and post-adoption support to Western New York. And our commitment to a life well lived for the seniors of Chautauqua County is stronger than ever.

Whether you’re looking for independent 55-and-up housing, assisted living or just answers to questions about aging, our knowledgeable team is here to help. Just like we’ve always been.

Volunteers make all the difference.

Lutheran is the proud sponsor of two AmeriCorps Seniors programs, RSVP and Foster Grandparents. AmeriCorps Seniors is a network of national service programs for Americans 55 and up, each with the goal of improving lives and fostering civic engagement. Volunteers commit their time to address critical community needs, including academic tutoring and mentoring, elderly care, and disaster relief support.

Conceived during John F. Kennedy’s presidency, AmeriCorps Seniors currently links roughly 220,000 Americans to service opportunities in their communities. Their contributions of skills, knowledge, and experience make a real difference to individuals, nonprofits, and faith-based and other community organizations throughout the United States.

RSVP

This is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and over. Being a part of RSVP helps strengthen our community and foster civic engagement through volunteerism, plus giving back is good for you too! Older Americans who volunteer frequently report better health by staying active physically and socially.

RSVP has supported many community organizations, including the Salvation Army Food Pantry, St. Susan’s Soup Kitchen, Chautauqua County Humane Society, Audubon Community Nature Center, and Chautauqua Striders.

Foster Grandparents

This program provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by becoming role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs.

Our local program serves over 150 children each year, spending 15 hours a week in classrooms around the county. Foster Grandparents receive paid orientation, travel assistance, lunch while working, and accident/personal liability insurance. Plus, income-eligible individuals can earn a tax-free hourly stipend of over $2,000 per year.
